MBA in Darden, Kenan-Flagler, or Cox? Better Prepare a Good MBA Admission Essay

Pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is one good way to increase your competitiveness as you climb the corporate ladder.  It does not just give you better chances to advance your career, but it will surely enhance your knowledge and expertise on the field.  However, any MBA degree holder will tell you that pursuing the coveted MBA degree is not a piece of cake.  For this reason, MBA schools select only the best among their applicants for each particular year.  And while there may not be an effective or at least a sure way to really see who among the applicants are the best, most MBA schools just stick to the traditional way of selecting among students who usually have equal qualifications–the admission requirements.   

Admission requirements for an MBA degree

Foremost among the application requirements is the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score.  It is a standardized test in English and mathematics that will generally measure the aptitude of the student in the field.  The transcript of records of the student on his or her undergraduate course is of course another important factor.  For the personal characteristics, the admissions committee will turn into the applicant’s MBA admission essay.  It will tell the committee things that the other requirements cannot.  Furthermore, work experience is also often times seen as important admission requirement for the degree.  The personal interview, one of the last important steps into the admission process, may come after all the other requirements have been assessed and the applicant is initially seen as someone who fits into the program.  

Choosing Your school

While most of the schools follow the same requirements, it is important to set your goals according to your preferred school.  It is therefore important that once you have decided to pursue an MBA degree, you should immediately pick at least three preferred schools to choose from.  You should choose a school or schools that will suit you.  Some examples are three of the top MBA schools in the United States, namely Darden, Kenan-Flagler, and Cox.

Darden Graduate School of Business

This business school is part of the University of Virginia.  Its MBA program is ranked sixteenth on BusinessWeek’s Best MBA Program list on 2008.   It is considered as one of the most recommendable business schools in the United States.  One can initially apply by just accomplishing the online application form on their website.  

Kenan-Flagler Business School

Ranked 17th on the 2008 Best MBA Program of BusinessWeek, it the business school of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  Its programs include undergraduate and graduate business and management courses, including its renowned MBA program, of course.  

Cox School of Business

Part of the Southern Methodist University, it is 19th in the Best MBA Program list of BusinessWeek.  It is considered as one of the best business schools in the world by no less than the Wall Street Journal, and the BusinessWeek magazine, and other major business publications.  

Make a good MBA admission essay

Getting through the top schools such as Darden, Kenan-Flagler, or Cox is not easy.  You need not only good academic records, but you should be deemed to be personally fit for their program.  But, as most alumni and current students will tell you, there is one way to look good at the admissions committee—coming up with a good MBA admission essay.  A
good admission essay will definitely tell them that you are fit for their program, in your own unique way.
